My October Tree

100_6330

I just checked. Our present temperature is 86-degrees F, with a forecast high of 91. Not exactly sweater weather. Though October brings little change to southwest Florida's weather, I enjoy pretending there is a greater difference and recognizing the changes elsewhere, so I added pumpkins and orange and yellow leaves to the tree this week. (See My September Tree below)

Actually, it has been cool enough in the mornings that we have been able to turn off the air conditioner for a couple of hours the past three mornings. Saturday morning I even needed a light blanket across my shoulders, as I delighted in the early morning from my porch.

We have three maple trees in our backyard that obviously respond to the shorter daylight hours. Despite our tropical climate, their leaves begin to turn every fall. It is the most amazing thing. See - here is a leaf that dropped a couple of weeks ago. I honestly believe it is one of the ways God has chosen to delight me.

Thank You, Lord, for October.

My September Tree (Originally posted 9-1-06 at Patricia Ann's Pollywog Creek Porch)

I am quite cognizant of the fact that I have "preached" the virtues of finding contentment with the moment and not wishing life away in anticipation of the future - but the truth is - I could hardly wait for it to be September! It is silly, really, because September 1 isn't the first day of a new season, and fall in SW Florida is only a day on the calendar, but I have eagerly anticipated it anyway.

Two weeks ago I bought an apple/cinnamon candle that I saved just for September. As soon as the candle's warm spicey aroma filled the house yesterday, I opened the fall storage bin and delighted in removing the decorations I had packed away last fall, concentrating on those items I traditionally put out in September.

My children have long outgrown the need for a Tree for all Months (Seasons), but it is such a sweet reminder of those precious years of homeschooling little ones that it is a tradition that continuously brings me joy. The September paper apples and footballs were hung on the tree branches, and Mason responded with wiggles and a grin as he watched them flutter in the breeze of the ceiling fan.

Thank You, Lord, for September.

Super awesome craft. I love it. Looks like a much nicer version of my all-seasons tree we were working on in July that never quite got finished. You've inspired me to get out the paper and make some leaves for it! I'm sick of looking at those snowflakes (already at it's not even winter).

I have to tell you, sweetie, that your post on HSB (of which I am ashamed to say I just discovered) nearly brought me to tears. My heart goes out to you. I don't even know where to begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed reading your posts this past year. I hope you'll keep in touch - which should be even easier since you're on Blogger like me now!

*hugs* God bless you in this new season. I'm looking to you to glean some courage for when I get there! I am ever aware of how quickly the time is passing....
