Saturday Photo Hunt - Heavy
This was a tough theme for me this week. I had to dig deep into my flickr archives to find photographs that I thought might work, and the ones I chose are not what might be expected here on Pollywog Creek.

Emily and Kristin are certainly not the heavies in this photograph, taken at the airport in New York the day Nick graduated from Kings Point in June 2005. What was heavy was the luggage. This photograph shows only a portion of the very heavy suitcases and bags that Kristin, Emily and I were responsible for securing at the airport, while Nick and Louis returned the rental car. Nick had tried to bring as much of his stuff home as he could during his senior year at the academy, but he still had a footlocker and several large and heavy bags that we had to check in at the airport - including the ceremonial sword that Nick was presented as Regimental Commander and Kristin has slung over her shoulder in this photo. Checking that sword in at the airport (post 9/11) was interesting, to say the least.
And for a slightly different take on the word "heavy"...
In the fall of 2004, Emily, Kristin and I experienced the presence of very heavy security when we met President and Laura Bush at a rally in Ft. Myers...

It was not easy to take photographs while the heavy security detail moved President and Laura Bush quickly past us, and in the photo below it appears that President Bush barely missed hitting my camera as he reached in my direction. It all happened very fast. Too fast to appreciate the moment and take photographs, too.
Despite this less-than-flattering photograph of Laura Bush shaking Emily's hand, I must say that she is a very beautiful woman.

A professional photographer accompanying the Bushes gave us his card and told us that photographs he had taken would be available on his website, but we never saw any that included us, so we are stuck with these unprofessional photographs of mine.

Our luggage is always freakishly heavy... especially AFTER a trip. :) Cool pics of the Bush family, too.
My heavy photo is up, too.
Yes I can see that luggage is heavy but luckily it has wheels.
I'm sure you were happy to have the "Bush" photo op. Have a great weekend.
That spells "excess baggage!!!!" hahaa..
Much have been pretty neat to take those pictures of Bush & Family.
Yes I can tell those luggage are really heavy.
Ohhhhhhhhhh, my aching back. Good thing you thought of the luggage carrier!!!!
Hope you can drop by and visit with me as I celebrated my birthday today!! My heavy is part of the celebration.
after having two girls in college, I know how heavy their luggage is! You're 100% right, heavy indeed. Enjoyed the pictures of you meeting President Bush and his wife- what an experience that must have been!
Have a great weekend!
That luggage looks very heavy to be dealing with at the airport. Fun candid shots of the Bushes. Have a great weekend.
I used to overpack to the nth degree. My poor Brother-in-law would cringe at my pre-rolling luggage. Now I never take more than one suitcase and no carry-ons, I have evolved!
I love you take on heavy. You're right. Heavy luggage and heavy security! And I agree, it's SO hard to appreciate the moment through a viewfinder. Sometimes we purposely don't take pictures of something because of that.
My, that luggage looks so heavy!!
I'm glad you got to see the president and first lady.
Luggage is always heavier on the return trip! Great shots! And what a treat to see the President and his wife... that is quite the expression on her face ;-)
Emily,looks so young there!
Yes, I agree, despite having a "glaring look" in that photo, Laura Bush looks lovely. And the hair with red, white and blue ribbons, is that Emily?
Have a great weekend, Patricia. ((hugs)) to your grandson and to Emily of course.
The heavy suitcases are great for the theme. But, the "heavy security" is very clever. I love the handshake between Emily and the First Lady; it's so strong looking. Love that.
Luggage IS incredibly heavy. We flew down to Florida a few summers ago and were IDIOTS for not using cases with wheels; we had to carry those things for miles - our arms were jelly when it was all said and done. Now? We definitely use wheelies. lol

I hate traveling with heavy luggage. For a trip to Central America I purchase a duffel bag with wheels. It was awful no matter how i held it it banged my legs so badly i was left with bruises.
It is very cool that you got to be so close to the Bushes.
Sure those luggages you have are heavy. You're all packed, where are you going? Can i go too? lol! Happy weekend!
Baby Pushing Mommy
Oh, yes, and such a difficult decision in many cases (different here because he was bringing lots of stuff home not just traveling) in many cases it is difficult to decide how many cases and what to bring in them so that hey are not so heavy to carry.
When I came home from Europe years ago I put all my books in my luggage. It may sound silly, but if you had them with you they were duty free.
And I can't imagine the questions about the sword. DH has several times had to toss a penknife.
Yep luggage is always heavy!
Good idea for the photo hunt. Like the other pics too even though they ar nog exactly right. But my it must have felt funny to be so close to Bush and his wife.
i hate dragging heavy luggages...Great photos, thanks for sharing.
Mine is up at
4SeasonsOfMyLife. Hope you can visit me too. Happy Photo Hunting.
That looks like some very heavy luggage! Happy Weekend! :)
Excellent choices! Happy hunting.
I loved the way you presented heavy. Have a blessed weekend.
Those are great pictures!! I do my fair share of lugging heavy luggage through the airport. It's a pain. I actually love that picture of George Bush!!
My heavy post is up at http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/prodoceo/473432/
I envy you, Laura is my favorite 1st lady, it once was Barbara, and I like GWB, too bad he has not had much support in his efforts.
I like the take of heavy luggage. I always take way too much whereas Jim can pack for a week in a wee overnighter. Guess I like my stuff!
Mama Bear
Those sure a heavy luggages, thanks for sharing....

Every Beat Of My Heart
Yup, luggages are HEAVY! And nice pics of the President Bush and his wife. What a great experience that must have been!:)
Funny that I didn't think of suitcases... great choice! On my return from a trip to Germany mine are always heavy enough to make me have to pay for overweight...
Happy weekend Patricia!
Oh man I remember a day like that when I brought a huge portion of my daughters stuff back with me from her college. At least you can prove you were with the president and lst lady with those shots!
Fabulous photos for this weeks tough theme! I thought Laura Bush had an awful lot of makeup on...loll...I sympathize with all that luggage too! I always take too much and cant use the excuse that I am bringing home years of stuff from college! Thanks for visiting my hunt sweetie, I always appreciate your visits!
Great photos and interpretation of this weeks theme! I especially like the "Heavy" luggage! I am always worried that I will go over the luggage limits! Happy weekend!
I remember the struggle with heavy luggage - and before the era of wheeled cases, too!
Heavy luggages..! Now that's an idea. Wish I could have remembered that earlier...hehehe
have a good weekend!

fascinating. so professional photographers follow and hand out cards? there must be a better way to get the word out. Your photos of the Bushes are great, especially Laura. My Photo Hunt — Heavy is here. Thank you.
Great take on the heavy theme. I hate luggage - even when I just take an overnight bag, it seems to weigh a ton! Have a great weekend.
Just dropping by today to send along my heartfelt thanks for such a lovely happy birthday wish! Y'all made my day so special yesterday, and I cherished every single wish left in my comments. You're a treasure!!! Thank you kindly!!!
