First Friday::October 2009::"We're not here for the_________"
"We're not here for the food." I reminded my friend as we surveyed the menu board on the wall.
It wasn't that the cafe's offerings were bad, it's just that we would have chosen a different restaurant if we had been expecting finer cuisine. We weren't there for the food.
"It's true for most things, don't you think?" She responded. It should be.
We're not here - I'm not here - right here, in this place, at this time - for the what? The money? The praise of men? Material prosperity? Future retirement? Life of ease? Perfect health? Personal satisfaction? Me?
Have I not been chosen for more?
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. I Peter 2:9 (emphasis mine)

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. I Corinthians 10:31
"After every time of exaltation, we are brought down with a sudden rush into things as they really are, where it is neither beautiful, poetic, nor thrilling. The height of the mountaintop is measured by the dismal drudgery of the valley, but it is in the valley that we have to live for the glory of God." O. Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, October 2

I'm going to say this at the risk of being thought shallow:
I'm nearly almost always there for the food.
But it doesn't have to be food for the stomach. Sometimes it's food for the spirit, food for my relationships, food for my brain. (I'm always hoping for coffee, however, no matter what form the food takes. Now that IS rather shallow...)
you have a lovely talent for showing the work of the Lord.
Thank you, Kaye. It truly is His work, too!
Farmer's Wife, you are a hoot! I'm always hoping for coffee, too, no matter what else is in the blank. =)
Thank you Pat - lovely post, lovely pics~
Thursday I sent Honey Bear and email with a link to "The Camera" on Amazon.com. The message said: I want this for Christmas.
In a reply message he said: This sight does not allow any items valued at more than $200.
When he got home, we discussed the camera and I led him to your sight to see what you can do with it. Hopefully, I can do half as good. So, we'll see if I'm worth that amount of money, come Christmas eve.
I love these verses. It is wonderful to be on the mountain top but it is in the valleys of our life when we grow the most. We recognize that we may not like what we're going through but He will use it for His glory.
Mama Bear
Not here for the food would never fly here. But I get what you mean. :)
