This pastor wasn't denying his responsibility to feed the sheep in his flock - he knew he would someday answer for how he loved, cared for and equipped the people God brought to his church. He meant that grown-up, maturing Christians also feed themselves.
Babies need to be fed. Mature Christians don't depend on their pastor to feed them.
It's an indicator of my lack of spiritual growth when I grumble that my pastor does not meet my spiritual needs.
The first thing I should ask myself is how am I feeding myself?
