Sunday

I {LOVE} Sunday...

In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through him,
and without him was not any thing made that was made.
In him was life,
and the life was the light of men.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:1-5

Thanksliving::Day 3: the Mighty One speaks...

The Mighty One, God the LORD,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting.

"Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and perform your vows to the Most High,
and call upon me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me."

Psalm 50:1, 14-15 ESV

Sunday

I {LOVE} Sunday::to call to mind and have hope in this...

Lamentations 3:22-23

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.
Lamentation 3:22-23

I {LOVE} Sunday::to know the power of God...

_DSC0059
The word of the cross is folly
to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved
it is the power of God.

I Corinthians1.18

I am not ashamed of the gospel,
for it is the power of God for salvation
to everyone who believes...

Romans 1.16
Between February 12th and April 16th (the Wednesday before Easter), I am reading and discussing John Piper's The Passion of Jesus Christ - Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die with a group of friends. From now through Easter, my Still Saturday quotes and I {LOVE} Sunday scriptures will come from my readings in this book by Piper, and the photos* might simply be a few favorites from those I've taken during the week.

I {LOVE} Sunday::to remember once again - I'm alive and forgiven...

_DSC0030
And you, who were dead in your trespasses...
God made alive together with him,
having forgiven us all our trespasses,
by canceling the record of debt that stood
against us with its legal demands.
This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

*Last Sunday's photo was a sunset at the beach. Today's photo I captured as I drove over a foggy Caloosahatchee River on the Ft. Denaud Bridge just as the sun was rising earlier this week.

A Caloosahatchee Morning

I'm already running late for my appointment in the city when I discover that Emily has left her wallet in my car. I have no choice but to take the time to go into town where Emily works and give her the wallet before I head to the city in the opposite direction.

Instead of driving west along the river, I head east and into the rising sun, and though I know I'm running behind schedule, this scene along the river begs to be captured, and I am weak for such a wonder as this.

I park the car at the loading dock before crossing the bridge, get out and shoot a few photos, take the wallet to Emily in town, and arrive at my appointment in the city with time to spare.

God is so, so good to me.

In the things that have been made...

Our drive from home on Pollywog Creek to our rural county courthouse {the only place for early voting in our county} a couple of weeks ago began with golden sunlight streaming through morning fog.

From the helicopter recently, Louis saw these fields of wild daisies filling hundreds of acres of pastureland. He stopped the car for a few minutes {not long enough} for me to take a few photos from the car.

The last two daisy photos were taken from the moving car as we continued on to the courthouse - about 25 miles {and one stoplight} from our home.

One of the {many} joys of rural living - no lines at the courthouse to vote.

After the fog lifted, it was beautiful and clear, so we drove along the river near the courthouse before heading home.

For his invisible attributes,
namely, his eternal power and divine nature,
have been clearly perceived,
ever since the creation of the world,

To run the course with joy...

A thin layer of fog floats misty over the river as the rising sun paints peach across the south.

I steer the car across the narrow bridge and continue toward the highway and my appointment in the city an hour from home - a weekly routine for over a month.

I must hurry. Once dawn gives way, there's no holding back the fiery orb's rise over the pasture just around the bend.

As I stop the car on the side of the road, my soul swells hallelujahs, and I remove my camera's lens cap - hoping to capture a glimpse of glory in the foggy horizon's blaze.

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

Psalm 19:1-6 ESV

Nothing can hold back the sun or my praise - to run the course with joy.

God writes the gospel not in the Bible alone,
but on trees and flowers and clouds and stars.

Wednesday

Do I really mean it?

We didn't even sing that song - the one with the lyrics...

You're all I want
You're all I've ever needed

... but something in the pastor's message and in the worship leader's prayer made me think of them.

And I was instantly convicted.

I know the LORD is all I need, but is He really, truly all I want?

One glance at my Pinterist boards answers that question.

Know what I mean?
